OK so your holiday has been and gone, and far too quickly at that… and you have the serious post holiday blues. Actually, you have the holiday blues and also lots of thoughts about your trip that can improve it for next time. So we have compiled a list of the 6 things we wish we had known before our holiday.
We could have packed a LOT less
Returning from our gorgeous 7 day trip to Menorca we can’t help but notice that we used just about half of the clothes we packed and no more. So that means we brought a suitcase with clothes and only half were worn, all that struggling and lugging could have been so much lighter. Our tip here – lay out all the clothes you want to take and then remove half of them. Beachwear and beach clothing for the day time and then a couple of evening outfits for casual plus a couple of dressy evening outfits.
Make up – Less is Definitely more
On holiday the skin tends to sweat a lot more and therefore we feel it just doesn’t need so much product. After just a few days your skin will be more sun kissed and glowing and already you will feel less need for foundation, blusher, eyeshadow and mascara. That natural holiday skin looks fab and all blemishes are evened out, therefore leave half the make up kit at home. So as with our first tip, less is more… you won’t need it…
Holiday skin preparation
Our skin sheds millions of skin cells on a daily basis and why leave the skin preparation for the sun until you reach your destination? Its much more sensible to start preparing at home, sometimes up to a week before you leave. We suggest having a good scrub all over the body, we are big fans of Superdrugsloofah Scrub and polish the skin and then super hydrate afterwards. This also helps even out the body skintone and remove dark patches on knees, ankles and elbows. We are also singing the praises of the body scrub glove, this wonder product is super easy to use and perfectly smoothing on the skin, we like: https://www.boots.com/boots-exfoliating-gloves-10130665
Pre Holiday Manicure and Pedicure
Nails can get more wear than normal on holiday, both with sand and terraces not to mention open toes. It might be worth considering a longer lasting nail varnish formula that will last you the entire trip. If you have a gel manicure make sure it has an extra protective top coat over it or if you feel brave enough go the whole hog and have a shellac manicure which is almost entirely guaranteed to be chip free.
Sunglasses and Holiday footwear
OK so here’s where we might suggest a slight increase..This is because when yo’re wearing the same light holiday clothing by day most of the time an easy way to maximise and alternate the looks of your key holiday pieces is to bring a few extra flip flops and sandals. Remember they are light and easy to pack so its not taking up the space of packing less still.Lay out your key styles and looks before you pack so you can visualise outfits.
Higher Factor Sunscreen
It is worth doing your homework on the sunscreen. There’s a lot of confusion over brands and SPF’s and how they work. Many articles exist both online and in printed press with detailed comparisons of both high street and top end brands. Surprisingly the most expensive aren’t always the best. This informative article byThe British Association of Dermatologists has compiled some thorough advice which can be read here :http://www.bad.org.uk/for-the-public/skin-cancer/sunscreen-fact-sheet Our tip is to wear the maximum SPF possible and take a fake tan (yes we just said that) to mix with your body lotion by night – this will give you a fantastic even tan and skintone.
